Indian Railways Launches Special Trains as IndiGo Flight Cancellations Disrupt Passengers

In view of the mass cancellation of IndiGo flights from Hyderabad, the South Central Railway (SCR) has moved to help affected passengers by running four special trains. Saturday saw Rajiv Gandhi International Airport passengers enduring huge inconveniences due to the cancellation of 43 outbound and 26 inbound flights; they had to endure long queues.
This measure by SCR is to run the special trains to Chennai, Mumbai, and Shalimar (Kolkata), thereby taking care of the increased passenger flow caused owing to the cancellations. The cancellation of the flights has led to the SCR providing an alternative for the stranded passengers amidst the widespread disruption of flights.
At the airport, the frustration of IndiGo passengers was apparent as many were not able to get timely flight updates. Former Ministry of Defence spokesperson Tarun Singha narrated the situation on social media, mentioning long waits at security checkpoints and no airline staff present to take care of passenger concerns.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Friday apologized saying that the disruptions had caused inconvenience and he was aware of the situation as it unravelled in real-time. He mentioned that the airline had to operate less than 1,000 flights on Saturday.
This situation is a clear indication of the increasing troubles of the air transport users and simultaneously, the Indian Railways providing assistance in the form of extra train services.
