While speaking to the reporters regarding the trade deal between India and US, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said on Thursday that negotiations are still underway. Between India and the US, trade talks have been going on. These are complicated negotiations. Nothing is decided till everything is.” he said. Moreover, “Any trade deal has to be mutually beneficial; it has to work for both countries. That would be our expectation from the trade deal. Until that is done, any judgment on it would be premature.”

The remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump in Doha commented, “India offered the US a deal, basically zero tariffs.” This development, as reported by Bloomberg, indicated a potential progress between Washington and New Delhi.

Previously, the US has suspended additional tariffs on Indian exports for 90 days, from April 10 to July 9. This was followed by a slew of tariffs announced by Trump on imports from nearly 60 countries, which included a 26% duty on Indian goods like shrimp and steel.
