India: The World’s emerging factory and innovation hub, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared India the “factory of the world,” highlighting the nation’s rapid strides in innovation and manufacturing. Speaking at the NXT Conclave, he emphasized that India is no longer just a global back office but a rising force in global production and technology.
“India is not just a workforce; we are a world-force now,” PM Modi stated, underscoring how the world is closely observing India’s organizational and innovative capabilities.
Local to Global: The Rise of Indian Products
PM Modi pointed out that the government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative is yielding significant results, with Indian products gaining worldwide acceptance. From semiconductors to aircraft carriers, India’s manufacturing sector is expanding rapidly, making the country a key player in global supply chains.
He cited examples such as turmeric, millets, electronic goods, medicines, and mobile phones that have successfully transitioned from local markets to international demand. Notably, India now supplies over 60% of the world’s turmeric. Even niche products like Pulwama’s snow peas, Maharashtra’s Purandar figs, and Kashmir’s cricket bats are receiving growing international recognition.
India’s Role in AI and the Global South
PM Modi also discussed India’s progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and the country’s active role in amplifying the voice of the Global South. He highlighted India’s commitment to climate action, referencing the Mission LiFE initiative, the International Solar Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
Governance and Reforms: A Decade of Change
Reflecting on his government’s tenure, he emphasized that, for the first time in 60 years, a government in India has secured a third consecutive term, attributing this trust to the nation’s accomplishments over the past 11 years. He reiterated his administration’s philosophy of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,' mentioning that nearly 1,500 outdated laws have been abolished, including the Dramatic Performances Act, which had restricted public performances for decades.
India’s Innovation on the Global Stage
Highlighting India’s rich history of innovation, PM Modi remarked that the country, which introduced the world to the concept of zero, is now pioneering “infinite innovations.” India is not just developing new solutions but offering them in an affordable and accessible manner.
A key example of this is the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which has revolutionized digital transactions. He noted that the technology has impressed global financial leaders, with countries like France, the UAE, and Singapore integrating it into their systems.
A Vision for the Future: Made in India, Heal in India, Wed in India
Outlining India’s global aspirations, PM Modi called for a shift in mindset, urging the world to embrace ‘Made in India’ as a universal standard. He also introduced concepts such as ‘Heal in India’ for medical tourism, ‘Wed in India’ for destination weddings, and positioning India as a prime destination for travel, conferences, and global events.
“India is moving forward with a firm resolve to become a developed nation in the next 25 years,” he affirmed, reinforcing his vision of a self-reliant and globally influential India.
