The India Meteorological Department issued multiple weather alerts Monday, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several Indian states.

Gujarat and Southwest Rajasthan will see heavy showers with lightning and gusts reaching 60 km/h, the IMD said. In Northwest India, including Punjab and Haryana, alerts cover rain, thunderstorms and hail.

Eastern regions such as Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal have warnings for rain and storm activity, with possible hail in some districts.

Delhi and its neighboring areas can expect light rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and surface winds of 30 to 40 km/h, increasing to 50 km/h during storms.

For Maharashtra, the IMD issued an orange alert for Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts and a yellow alert for Thane, Pune, Nashik and Jalgaon. Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are likely to record light to moderate showers on Monday.

The warnings arise from a western disturbance over North Pakistan extending into Punjab and Rajasthan, combined with several upper air cyclonic circulations over central South Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and northeast Assam, and a circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea.

Private agency Skymet attributed the active pre-monsoon pattern to these systems, predicting the alerts will remain in force through May 6.
