Illegal Firecrackers and Crude Bombs Worth Lakhs Seized in Mathura Ahead of Diwali

The Mathura Police made a big pre-Diwali crackdown and seized fireworks and homemade bombs worth several lakhs from a warehouse in the Vrindavan area. The officials reported that the warehouse was located in a neighborhood with a lot of houses and if the explosives caught fire it could have resulted in a major disaster.

Pre-Diwali Raid on a Massive Scale in Vrindavan

The operation was conducted in the Pratap Bazaar area and was part of Mathura’s citywide campaign against the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers. One person was detained at the site by the police, who identified him as Sanware Agarwal and he is now being questioned in relation to the case.

On orders from the Director General of Police (DGP), law enforcement agencies escalated the inspections in the entire district to prevent the stocking up of fireworks and explosives the days leading to the festival.

Stock of Firecrackers Includes Locally Made Bombs

In the course of the raid, police found firecrackers of different brands in addition to locally made crude bombs stored in very poor conditions. Officials have confirmed that the whole stock has been taken up and legal actions are being carried out.

Rajeev Kumar Singh, a senior police officer, pointed out that the Vrindavan Kotwali police team acted swiftly and thus a disaster was averted. “The warehouse was in a packed area, thus, a big accident could have happened anytime. The seized items have all been secured and strict measures will be taken,” he said.

The crackdown is part of a larger movement aimed at public safety and environmental compliance that runs parallel to the Diwali festivities.
