Hisar-Ayodhya Flights Begin, New Terminal at Airport Announced

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated scheduled commercial flight operations between Hisar and Ayodhya and initiated the construction of a new terminal at Maharaja Agrasen Airport, marking a push in Haryana’s aviation infrastructure.

The new terminal, projected to cost over Rs 410 crore, includes a modern passenger facility, cargo handling terminal, and air traffic control tower. The government targets completion within two years.

Addressing a gathering in Hisar, Modi highlighted the central government’s expansion in aviation infrastructure. He noted that the number of airports in India has more than doubled from 74 in 2014 to over 150 now. Modi emphasized the government’s focus on connecting regional areas and expanding affordable air travel access.

"In 70 years, India had only 74 airports. That number has doubled in the last 10 years. We are witnessing record passenger numbers every year," Modi said, adding that airline companies are acquiring around 2,000 aircraft to meet growing demand.

The Hisar-Ayodhya route will operate two times a week, while additional services will link Hisar to Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh with three weekly flights for each.

This aviation development coincided with Modi's broader visit to Haryana to launch projects exceeding Rs 10,000 crore. The event also commemorated the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a key figure in drafting the Indian Constitution.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several state officials were present at the function.
