Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday took a symbolic sip of water from the Yamuna River in Palla village, Delhi, as a counter to the accusations made by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal had recently claimed that the BJP government in Haryana was deliberately poisoning the Yamuna waters, even accusing the party of attempting a "mass genocide."

Saini condemned Kejriwal’s statements, calling them politically motivated and designed to create fear for electoral gains. He emphasized that the Water Resource Authority had tested the water and found no contaminants, labeling Kejriwal’s remarks as false. "An unfortunate statement by Arvind Kejriwal was given to create fear among the public for his political benefit," Saini remarked, after drinking the water from the river.

The controversy began when Kejriwal, while campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections, alleged that the Haryana government was draining industrial waste into the Yamuna, claiming it was poisoning the river. He further accused Haryana’s leadership of trying to harm the people of Delhi by polluting the water supply.

In response, Haryana Revenue Minister Vipul Goel stated that the state government would file a case against Kejriwal for spreading panic, accusing him of making an irresponsible statement under the Disaster Management Act.

This political dispute over the Yamuna River contamination has ignited a fiery debate, with both sides accusing each other of misleading the public for political advantage.
