The Indian government has issued a high-severity cybersecurity alert for users of Google Chrome, urging immediate action to mitigate potential threats. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, flagged multiple high-risk vulnerabilities that could allow cybercriminals to gain control of users’ systems.

According to CERT-In, the affected Chrome versions contain flaws that can be exploited to execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, or crash the system altogether. These vulnerabilities primarily affect desktop versions of Chrome prior to version 124.0.6367.207 for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

What You Should Do

Users are strongly advised to:

Update Google Chrome immediately to the latest version by navigating to:

Settings → Help → About Google Chrome

The browser will automatically check for updates and install the latest security patches.

Restart the browser after updating to ensure changes take effect.

Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unverified files, especially from unknown sources.

Why This Matters

Cybercriminals often exploit unpatched vulnerabilities to inject malware, steal sensitive information, or take remote control of affected systems. With billions of users worldwide, Chrome remains a top target for such attacks. Keeping your browser updated is a critical defense against these exploits.
