Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, earned Rs 10.41 crore in the financial year 2024–25, marking a 12% increase from the previous year, according to the annual reports of the group’s listed companies. Despite this rise, his earnings remain lower than several top executives in India’s corporate sector, including some within his own conglomerate.

Adani, aged 62, received his remuneration from two of the group’s nine listed firms. At Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), he earned Rs 2.26 crore as salary and Rs 28 lakh in allowances. From Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), his compensation included Rs 1.8 crore salary plus Rs 6.07 crore as commission, totaling Rs 7.87 crore.

In the previous financial year, his total earnings stood at Rs 9.26 crore—Rs 2.54 crore from AEL and Rs 6.8 crore from APSEZ—reflecting an increase of over Rs 1 crore this year.

Who Earned More Than Gautam Adani?

Even with the hike, several prominent business leaders in India earned significantly more in FY25. For instance, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Airtel made Rs 32.27 crore, Rajiv Bajaj of Bajaj Auto earned Rs 53.75 crore, and Pawan Munjal of Hero MotoCorp took home Rs 109 crore in FY24.

In FY25, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan earned Rs 76.25 crore, while Infosys CEO Salil S Parekh received Rs 80.62 crore.

Notably, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries and India’s richest person, has not drawn a salary since the Covid-19 pandemic, previously capping it at Rs 15 crore.

Higher Earnings Within Adani Group

Interestingly, some top executives within the Adani Group earned more than Gautam Adani in FY25. Vinay Prakash, CEO of AEL, earned Rs 69.34 crore, comprising Rs 4 crore salary and Rs 65.34 crore in bonuses and perks.

Vneet S Jaain, Managing Director of Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), earned Rs 11.23 crore, while Jugeshinder Singh, the group’s Chief Financial Officer, took home Rs 10.4 crore.

At APSEZ, Karan Adani, Gautam Adani’s son, earned Rs 7.09 crore, and CEO Ashwani Gupta received Rs 10.34 crore. Both are expected to receive variable pay for FY26.

Several members of the Adani family also ranked among the high earners in the group. Rajesh Adani, Gautam’s younger brother, earned Rs 9.87 crore from AEL. His nephews Pranav and Sagar Adani earned Rs 7.45 crore and Rs 7.50 crore, respectively, from AGEL.

Net Worth and Market Standing

According to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Gautam Adani’s net worth currently stands at $82.5 billion. He briefly became Asia’s richest person in 2022 but faced a sharp decline in his group’s share prices following a report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research in 2023.

Though Adani reclaimed the top spot in Asia twice during 2024, he currently ranks behind Mukesh Ambani.
