FLO members interacting with the artists of Telia Rumal in Puttapaka village
Hyderabad: Hyderabad chapter of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) said it has adopted the historical craft, Telia Rumal, which is said to have been patronised once by Hyderabad’s aristocrats. A team of Flo members visited Puttapaka village known for its craft, and interacted with the weavers.
Due to our sustained effort over the last 10 months, we have impacted six women entrepreneurs, and made this craft known to such an extent that Telangana’s ‘Telia Rumal’ has gone global, and was showcased at the G20 meeting, Chairperson of FLO Ritu Shah said while interacting with the weavers.
Through our efforts, we got the village a grant of Rs 30 lakh from the government of Telangana. More than 200 pieces of garments across the country highlighting its importance, she revealed.
Flo has donated here 4,800 sanitary pads, two mobile toilets, sanitary pads vending machine, and an incinerator through the Collector, in the past. It has also organised free specialty health camps for 800 women at the village. With this visit, Flo concluded its year-long activity undertaken for promotion of the craft. Puttapaka and Koyyalgudem are the two villages involved in this craft work. Together they produce Telia Rumal fabric worth of Rs 5 crore a month, the Sarpanch of Puttapaka village Bhaskar said.
“We do not have buyers. What we need is marketing help, design intervention, online promotion, and financial support from the government, in terms of interest-free loans. Nearly 1,000 families depend on this dying craft,” he added. He appreciated the efforts of Flo in popularising their craft. He informed that FLO has helped them with marketing their products.
