In a shocking revelation from the national capital, the Delhi Police on Monday arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of a UPSC aspirant. The accused allegedly tried to destroy evidence by setting the victim’s body on fire using ghee and wine.

The accused have been identified as Amrita Chauhan (21), her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap (27), and their friend Sandeep Kumar (29) — all residents of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) Raja Banthia confirmed that with the trio’s arrest, the police have successfully solved the case.

“The team of PS Timarpur has arrested three accused — Amrita, Sumit, and Sandeep. The victim’s belongings and two mobile phones have been recovered from their possession,” the DCP said.

How the Crime Came to Light

On October 6, Delhi Police received a report about a fire on the 4th floor of E-60, Gandhi Vihar. Firefighters rushed to the scene and, after extinguishing the blaze, found a burnt body inside the flat.

The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Ram Kesh Meena, a UPSC aspirant who had been living at the property. His body was shifted to Hindu Rao Hospital for autopsy, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS).

CCTV Footage Reveals the Killers

During the investigation, police accessed CCTV footage from the building. The visuals revealed that two men entered the premises late on the night of October 5–6, their faces covered.

After 39 minutes, one suspect left the building, and at around 2:57 a.m., a woman — later identified as Amrita Chauhan — was seen leaving with another man. Moments after they exited, the fire broke out inside the apartment.

This footage became the key breakthrough in the investigation.

Arrest and Motive

Police tracked Amrita’s mobile location data, which confirmed her presence at Gandhi Vihar during the incident. After multiple raids, she was arrested from Moradabad on October 18, along with Sumit and Sandeep.

During interrogation, Amrita confessed to the crime. She told police that she and Meena had been living together since May 2025, but the relationship soured after he allegedly refused to delete intimate videos and photos of her stored on a hard disk.

“Amrita claimed that Meena was blackmailing her using obscene videos. With help from her ex-boyfriend Sumit and friend Sandeep, she planned and executed the murder,” police said.

The hard disk was later recovered from a trolley bag belonging to Amrita.

How the Murder Was Executed

According to police, the trio strangled Meena to death before attempting to destroy evidence by setting his body on fire. To make it appear like an accidental blaze, they allegedly poured ghee and wine over the body before igniting it.

What’s Next

All three accused have been remanded in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine whether anyone else was involved. Forensic teams are also verifying digital evidence retrieved from the hard disk and phones.
