The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put an orange alert for fog ranging from dense to very dense for the northern and central states of India, including the National Capital Region, Haryana, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. The alert is given in anticipation of the fog that will last through the early morning hours and thus cause disturbances in visibility and negatively impact the daily commuters.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), regions affected severely by fog and low clouds included Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, South Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, West Meghalaya, North Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh. The foggy weather will continue until December 21 in such areas as Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar; on the other side, heavy fog might cover Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on December 24 and 25.
Cold Wave Conditions
Besides the fog outbreak, cold wave warnings have been announced for the regions of the south and south interior Karnataka, west Madhya Pradesh, and north interior Karnataka, with very cold wave conditions likely in some places on December 20 and 21.
Delhi Weather Update
IMD forecasts December 20 for Delhi to be partly cloudy with the occurrence of very dense fog at a few locations and dense fog at a majority of the sites in the morning, while mist or shallow fog will prevail overnight. The range of temperatures indicated is 7–9°C (min) and 21–23°C (max). During the morning hours, northwest winds will be barely at 5 kmph, then they will be blown up to 10 kmph in the afternoon and they will be mellowed down to less than 5 kmph from the southeast by the evening.

Due to fog reducing the visibility, travelers are advised to be more careful while on the road. Cold weather might health risks especially to old people, infants, and those suffering from respiratory problems.
