Patna, Bihar — A Delhi-to-Patna IndiGo flight narrowly avoided a runway mishap on Tuesday night when the pilot was forced to abort the landing moments before touchdown at Jayaprakash Narayan Airport. The aircraft, carrying 173 passengers, landed safely on the second attempt after a brief hold in the air.

🛬 What Happened During the IndiGo Flight Incident?

The incident occurred around 9 PM on July 15, when the IndiGo aircraft approached the runway in Patna but had to pull up just before landing. According to airport officials, the pilot realized mid-descent that the plane had insufficient runway length remaining for a safe stop due to what was described as an "unstabilized approach."

Responding promptly, the pilot executed a go-around maneuver — a standard safety procedure in aviation — and circled the airspace for a few minutes before attempting another approach. The aircraft safely landed during the second attempt without any injuries or issues.

Officials praised the pilot’s swift and skilled response. “The pilot’s judgment and adherence to safety protocol ensured that the situation was managed professionally, avoiding any potential accident,” an airport spokesperson stated.

✈️ Flight Operations Unaffected at Patna Airport

Despite the aborted landing, flight operations and passenger movement at Patna airport remained unaffected. Authorities confirmed there were no disruptions, and passengers disembarked safely after landing.

IndiGo has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

🔍 What Is a Go-Around in Aviation?

A go-around is a routine safety maneuver where a landing attempt is aborted and the aircraft climbs back into the sky to reattempt a landing. It is typically executed when an approach becomes unsafe due to weather, obstructions, or technical issues like in this case — an unstabilized descent.
