Delhi Conducts Emergency Siren Drill Amid Rising Tensions with Pakistan

In the wake of escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Delhi government conducted an emergency siren test on Friday as part of a mock preparedness drill under Operation Sindoor.
The air siren test was carried out around 3:00 PM at the Public Works Department (PWD) Headquarters at ITO, under the supervision of the Directorate of Civil Defence. The drill lasted approximately 10 minutes. Prior to the exercise, officials had issued a public notice urging citizens to stay calm and not panic, emphasizing that the siren was part of a routine preparedness measure.
Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma was present during the drill, and Central District Magistrate G. Sudhakar also appealed to residents to remain composed during the test.
The mock drill was conducted a day after India launched a retaliatory military strike targeting key locations in Pakistan, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Sialkot. The strikes followed a wave of drone and missile attacks from Pakistan the previous night, which targeted parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Indian air defense systems, including S-400 and Akash, intercepted nearly all incoming threats, with only one drone managing to reach and damage Jammu Civil Airport.
Amid these developments, several Indian states, particularly those near the border, have implemented standard operating procedures, including blackouts and heightened surveillance. The Indian government has confirmed that Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist threats from across the border, is still ongoing.
As regional tensions remain high, authorities continue to prioritize public safety and preparedness, urging citizens to stay alert and follow official advisories.
