In light of impending rain, strong winds, and rough sea conditions accompanying Cyclone Shakti-the first post-monsoon cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea-the Maharashtra Government has quickly issued a high alert. The coastal areas of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg have, therefore, been placed under moderate to high alert. Fishermen and others residing close to the coastline have been advised not to venture out.
The IMD has forecasted the South Konkan coast with wind speeds between 45 and 65 kmph, with gusts up to 100 kmph. Interior locations such as Marathwada and East Vidarbha would experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, thereby increasing instances of flooding and waterlogging.
