Cyclone Montha has entered the scene with a bang and has so far created a mess in the weather predictions by arriving so untimely and unannounced. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclone had crossed the Narasapuram coast at about 11:30 PM, but the satellite data suggested that it was indeed near Kalipatnam, further south of Antarvedi. The cyclone altered its path thrice prior to making landfall and not only blindsided the forecasters but also resulted in the issuance of emergency warnings in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.

In the latest update from the IMD, it was reported that the cyclone was moving in the direction of Bhimavaram, Aakiveedu, Kaikaluru, Gudivakalanka, Eluru, and Bapulapadu with the highest wind speed of 75 km/h. The specialists think that the coastal topography of Andhra Pradesh had an important role in the erratic path, where the shallow waters of the ocean altered the vortex of the cyclone, thus momentarily changing its form and the direction it was going.

Cyclone Montha is expected to move northwest from Vijayawada and enter Telangana through Khammam by late morning on Wednesday. By noon it will be down to cyclonic storm with wind speed approx. 55 km/h, which will cover the areas of Warangal, Ramagundam, and Adilabad, then it's to be routed to either Maharashtra or Chhattisgarh by midnight.

The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rain for the whole day and also thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speed of 30–40 km/h in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The 30th of October will still be rain in Telangana whereas Andhra Pradesh will only have light to moderate rainfall as per the forecast.

Live satellite data predicts that the most rain will fall in North and Central Telangana with particular focus on the following districts: Khammam, Kothagudem, Kesamudram, Warangal, Jammikunta, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Mangapet, Jangaon, Suryapet, and Ramagundam. People living in these areas are strongly recommended to stay indoors and not to travel unless it is very urgent.

Cloud cover will be the order of the day in Andhra Pradesh. Coastal Andhra and Uttarandhra are going to have rain of moderate to heavy intensity till the afternoon stopping for a little while and then lighter showers returning in the evening. Rayalaseema, on the other hand, will experience mostly dry but cool conditions. The IMD has warned of possible flooding and strong winds and hence advised people to be careful.

At the same time, a trough from the Arabian Sea is moving towards Gujarat at 47 km/h, while a new low-pressure area is being established near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The wind activity over the Bay of Bengal is still quite lively at 18 km/h, and another circulation over the Indian Ocean is a sign of the weather systems in the area being active.

Maximum daytime temperatures will be 25°C in Telangana and 27°C in Andhra Pradesh, with the humidity being very high at 84% to 93%, thus creating perfect conditions for rain to go on more or less uninterrupted. The cyclone is expected to slowly dissolve to the point of being a deep depression by the end of the day, but weather alerts will still be in place for both states.
