Cyclone Montha is approaching very near to the Indian coast and it will very likely make landfall this evening between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam close to Kakinada with very strong winds and heavy rains affecting the entire coastal region of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The meteorological department of India (IMD) has forecasted the cyclone will make landfall as a 'severe cyclone' at 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

🌧️ Heavy Rain & Strong Winds Hit Coastal Andhra

The affected coastal areas of Krishna, East Godavari, and Visakhapatnam are experiencing very heavy rains and winds of 90 to 100 kilometers an hour with peaks of up to 110 kilometers an hour. The IMD has also put 19 districts of Andhra Pradesh on the red alert, denoting extreme alertness, due to the very heavy rain and flooding in the low, marshy places.

The adjacent southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, and Karnataka are going to have light to heavy rain in the next few days as Cyclone Montha is going to move in.

🚨 Train & Flight Services Disrupted

The Indian Railways have taken the bad weather situation into account and have cancelled, diverted, and rescheduled numerous trains in the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Zone.

Airlines are also reacting to the situation, 35 flights going from Hyderabad (Shamshabad) to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Rajahmundry have been cancelled because of the cyclone's approach.

Out of those, there are 30 from IndiGo, two from Air India, and five from Air India Express.

🌀 Cyclone Montha’s Effect Seen Outside Andhra

Even though Cyclone Montha hasn’t landfalled yet, its periphery has already been felt in West Bengal with 彭浦 and the surrounding areas experiencing high winds and light rains. The IMD has warned the dwellers of the storm area to be careful and not to go out when the storm is at its peak.

📍 Ground Situation: Heavy Rain in Machilipatnam

Heavy rains and strong winds of up to 60 kilometers an hour have occurred in Machilipatnam which is just a stone throwaway from where landfall is predicted very soon. There are reports of trees being uprooted and roads like the one leading to Manginapudi Beach being blocked and thus the traffic in the area has been affected.

The government has sent disaster management troops, NDRF, and state rescue personnel to the coastal regions that are most likely to be affected. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea, and people have been advised to stay at home until the cyclone has passed over.
