Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (FACE) organised a national conference with the theme fostering sustainable growth and competitiveness in fisheries and aquaculture here on Wednesday.

The conference deliberated on how to drive competitiveness, strategies required for growth and efficiency focusing on India’s progress in the fisheries sector, supported by key government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), infrastructure development, and duty reductions.

In his inaugural address, B. Rajasekhar, Special Chief Secretary, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, acknowledged the role of private sector and innovation in addressing bottlenecks, expanding capacity, and creating market linkages to strengthen the aquaculture ecosystem.

Fisheries Commissioner Rama Shankar Naik stressed on the State's proactive efforts to transform the fisheries and aquaculture sector through innovative infrastructure models. He encouraged greater private sector participation in cold chain, logistics, and processing infrastructure to unlock the sector’s full potential, noting that the state offers a conducive policy and investment environment for long-term growth.

NFDB Senior Executive Director S. Kannapan underlined the sector's potential to lead India's next wave of blue economic transformation. He reiterated the importance of aligning sectoral efforts with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

CII Task Force on Fisheries Chairman P. Ravichandran stated: “The fisheries sector is undeniably one of the key cornerstones of the Indian economy. It plays a vital role not just in providing food and nutrition, but also in generating employment and earning valuable foreign exchange. I’m sure we all agree on the immense potential this sector holds for driving inclusive and sustainable growth.”

CII AP vice-chairman S. Narendra Kumar spoke on the importance of bringing together stakeholders across the fisheries value chain to deliberate on the key imperatives for fostering sustainable growth and enhancing global competitiveness.
