Vijayawada: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Heeralal Samaria emphasised the importance of integrating energy efficiency into climate strategies and praised the Southern States, particularly Andhra Pradesh, for their proactive measures.

On Monday, Samaria commended Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for taking decisive and immediate action to tackle climate change, highlighting the significant steps he has undertaken since assuming office for the fourth time three months ago.

Earlier, as part of efforts to consult with prominent national and global experts on scaling up energy efficiency programs by involving all categories of consumers and stakeholders, A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Media Advisor (Southern States/UTs) for BEE briefed Samaria in Delhi about various achievements of energy efficiency initiatives, their impact and comprehensive communication strategies adopted in Southern States/UTs.

Samaria said AP has been a pioneering State in the implementation of several programs of the government of India through BEE and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) such as the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA), Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), Agriculture Demand Side Management (AgDSM), and E-Mobility. These programs have been effectively implemented in AP, setting an example for other States and major cities to follow in reducing the cost of electricity and enabling consumers to lower their electricity bills, apart from reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

He said the initiatives spearheaded by India are designed as a global mass movement aimed at inspiring individuals and communities to take action in protecting and preserving the environment. The program aligns with India’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. He suggested an integrated strategy to achieve climate change goals to reduce the

carbon footprint.
