The Chennai RMC has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chennai and seven Tamil Nadu districts as a low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai has given the orange alert of a heavy rainfall in the entire Tamil Nadu, with the capital city being included in the warning, and the formation of low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal is predicted between October 21 and 24.
🌧 Low-Pressure System Building Over Bay of Bengal
The current status of this low-pressure system, as per RMC, is that it is hovering over the southeast Arabian Sea and an upper-air circulation exists over the southern Andaman Sea and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, which is causing this situation.
The system will gain strength and will get more west-northwestward upwards the coast of Oman amongst the next 24 hours and over the southwest and west-central bay of Bengal in the next two days.
⚠️ Orange Alert for Multiple Districts
The weather services have given an orange alert, which implies a warning of excessive rains, for the mentioned seven districts on Monday (October 21):
Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Cuddalore.
As well as that, severe rain is anticipated in the districts of Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Sivaganga.

Very heavy rain is predicted in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, and Vellore, with heavy showers likely in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Tirupattur.
October 24:
Intense rainfalls are likely in Tirupattur, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri.
🌩 Chennai Weather Outlook
According to the RMC, in Chennai, there will be a predominance of clouds with the possibility of rain ranging from moderate to heavy in different areas of the city along with thunderstorms.
The residents of low-lying areas are being advised to remain vigilant and refrain from entering water-logged places, as officials point out that the persistent rain may result in flooding locally in the northern part of Tamil Nadu and Delta region in the next few days.
