Tamil Nadu is set for another rainy spell this week with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of light to heavy rain across the districts and a climax by the weekend in the Chennai weather.
Rain Forecast for Today
The IMD declared light to moderate rainfall for today, 18th November, 2021, covering many portions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Rainfall is likely to appear in scattered spots in the districts of Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Thiruvallur, Thiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, and Viluppuram, as well in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Light rains are billed for the city; however, will change gradually in their strength as the week progresses.

As per the latest Met Department bulletin, some districts such as Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Theni may experience isolated heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains are very likely to occur in Mayilduthurai and Cuddalore districts.
Friday
The sky will likely remain heavily cloudy with isolated intense rainfall likely to occur across Mayilduthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Nagappattinam, and parts of Puducherry and Karaikal.
Weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
There is a high probability of heavy widespread rainfall across all major districts.
School Holidays in Chennai
All schools and colleges will be closed on Monday, that is, the government schools, private schools, and governed schools and the primary reason for the closure is the rain.
An announcement is yet to be made concerning holidays being canceled on Tuesday or for the few days following, so parents of school children, who will be advised to keep in touch with the schools to stay in the know.
