Hyderabad: California-based electric vehicle manufacturing company Biliti Electric, formerly Gayam Motors, will commence manufacturing electric three-wheelers (e-3Ws) and advanced Li-Ion battery packs at its expansive state-of-the-art facility in Velimela, Hyderabad from this November. It is infusing Rs 400 crore to set up a new plant in 13 acres during the first phase.

“The company has previously announced a $400-million (Rs 3,300 crore) capital commitment from Global Yield LLC SCS (GEM), a Luxembourg-based investor. It is also in final discussions with financiers to secure funding for the plant's phased construction,” Biliti Electric COO Sri Harsha Bavirisetty told Bizz Buzz in an exclusive interview.

“Within eight months from now, the new plant will have a capacity of producing 500 e-3W vehicles per month. And within 18-20 months, we will operate in full capacity of 2,000 vehicles per month. This plant is poised to bolster Telangana's economic growth by creating over 10,000 job opportunities, contributing to employment and skill development in the region,” he said.

Speaking about the future plans, Sri Harsha said: “The company will be investing the remaining funds on setting up battery swapping networks across geographies, global expansion, increasing the R&D team, and automating our assembly plants in the US and European Union. The key innovation in our business is swappable batteries. We will start battery swapping networks in India over the next 3-4 years.”

Biliti Electric specialises in creating a scalable battery swapping network for urban mobility and energy storage. The company pioneers the development and manufacturing of advanced modular battery technology suitable for various vehicle form factors. Its primary application has been in the realm of e-3Ws for last-mile delivery.

The company has deployed vehicles and batteries across 15 countries and 5 continents, with the vision to leverage batteries as distributed energy resources, particularly in urban environments, contributing to energy storage and grid stabilisation at scale.
