Intermittent rain is still present in Chennai and the nearby districts, while the heavier rain is expected over the coming weekend. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned about this situation and expected it to lead to a two-week period of yellow alert for the coming Sunday and Monday (November 16 and 17) and suggested residents to be cautious with their plans. There is still no warning for the next two days, but the meteorological predictions indicate a gradual increase in rainfall at the end of this week.

IMD has made a prediction that in the second half of November, the rain will be widespread over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The department also commented that in many parts light to moderate rain or even thunderstorms could form while isolated heavy showers would be likely in Tamil Nadu on the 12th, 17th, and 18th of November, and in Kerala and Mahe between the 12th and 13th of November. The same will happen in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema around November 17-18.

Severe electrical storms are also forecast by the IMD to occur in Tamil Nadu on November 12 and 17, in Kerala and Mahe from November 12-14, and over the Coastal and South Interior Karnataka regions on November 17 and 18.

The weather experts have connected the forthcoming rain to a cyclonic circulation that is still active over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and is almost hovering 1.5 kilometers above the sea level. Hence the system is still supplying moisture to southern India, thereby favoring rainfall.

Some weather trackers independent of IMD are of the opinion that the southern Tamil Nadu districts of Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli may receive moderate to heavy rain during the next few days. On the other hand, the northern coastal areas might get only a few showers with mostly dry weather prevailing otherwise.

November 14: Overcast weather will rule with light rain in a few areas.
