Bengaluru, August 5, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and 10 other Karnataka districts, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall for the next three days. This follows heavy overnight rain that flooded key roads, uprooted trees, and disrupted traffic.

Early Monday storms flooded main thoroughfares including Ramamurthy Nagar Road and Veerasandra near Hosur Road. In Kasturinagar, over 20 homes were inundated, and a truck carrying BWSSB pipes sank into slush caused by waterlogged soil. Residents reported poor coordination between BBMP and rail authorities in managing flooding.

A desilting backlog of over 25 years at Benniganahalli Lake was cited as a primary reason—residents criticized the authorities for repeated flood risk in these areas during monsoon.

Already in May, similar heavy rains caused Bengaluru to grind to a halt. Social media erupted with memes mocking the city's flooded roads and fragile infrastructure amid widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
