Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 from the historic Red Fort in New Delhi. He will unfurl the National Flag and address the nation from the monument’s iconic ramparts.
“As India continues its journey towards achieving the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, this year’s celebrations will be held under the theme Naya Bharat,” the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in an official statement.
The ministry added that the celebrations aim to showcase India’s rise as a prosperous, secure, and bold nation, inspiring renewed momentum on the path of progress.
Tri-Service Performances and National Anthem
The Air Force band, led by Junior Warrant Officer M. Deka, will perform the National Anthem during the flag hoisting. For the first time, 11 Agniveer Vayu musicians will join the band.
Following the hoisting, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force will shower flower petals over the venue. One helicopter will troop the national flag, while the other carries a flag depicting Operation Sindoor. The flights will be captained by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal.
After the PM’s address, NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers will sing the National Anthem, adding to the patriotic fervour.
Highlighting Operation Sindoor and ‘Naya Bharat’
This year, the celebrations will prominently feature Operation Sindoor, with its logo displayed on the view cutter at Gyanpath and incorporated into floral decorations. Invitation cards carry the Operation Sindoor logo and the Chenab Bridge watermark, symbolising the rise of ‘Naya Bharat’.
Approximately 5,000 special guests from diverse backgrounds will witness the event at the Red Fort.
Participation of Cadets and Volunteers
Around 2,500 cadets from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with ‘My Bharat’ volunteers, will take part in the celebrations. They will be seated on Gyanpath, forming the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo opposite the Red Fort ramparts.
Nationwide Celebrations
To promote patriotism and mark the success of Operation Sindoor, defence and paramilitary bands will perform at over 140 prominent locations across India for the first time during the Independence Day evening celebrations.
