Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has emerged as a trailblazer in the power distribution sector, showcasing its commitment to sustainable energy practices and efficiency gains.

Through a comprehensive suite of Demand Side Management (DSM) measures, the utility achieved extraordinary milestones, including a colossal total energy savings of 5062.48 million units (MU), a remarkable cost saving of Rs 3,265.47 crore, and a demand reduction of 101.222 MW. These accomplishments underscore the utility’s dedication to operational excellence and sustainable energy practices.

During a teleconference with EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor as part of Energy Conservation Week, APEPDCL CMD Prudhvi Tej highlighted on Wednesday the energy efficiency achievements of the Discom. These initiatives not only showcase environmental stewardship but also emphasise the economic benefits of renewable energy adoption.

APEPDCL’s commitment to providing 24x7 power supply has yielded a commendable 10 per cent increase in per capita consumption across all sectors. The strategic procurement of power through renewable sources has not only bolstered internal efficiency but has also enabled extending cost-effective tariffs to consumers, resulting in an impressive 8.7 per cent increase in consumer growth.

A meticulous analysis of the year-wise data unveils consistent growth in category-wise sales, with an impressive 8.7 per cent increase in the consumer base. APEPDCL has effectively managed technical and commercial losses, showcasing a reduction from 6.68 per cent in 2018-19 to an impressive 5.14 per cent up to September 2023.

In FY24, up to October 2023, APEPDCL witnessed a robust surge in max demand, reaching an impressive 4856 MW. This achievement signifies a growth in demand, signalling the organisation’s ability to meet the escalating energy needs of the region.

The surge in demand growth and consumer expansion for APEPDCL signals a flourishing regional economy marked by increased industrial activities, urbanisation and infrastructure development. The consistent rise in electricity demand reflects economic prosperity, job creation, and improvements in the quality of life for residents.

APEPDCL’s multifaceted approach encompasses a robust strategy to raise consumer awareness on peak load demand reduction. Conducting energy conservation programs has been pivotal, advocating the adoption of energy-efficient alternatives for a brighter and greener future.

Future Initiatives and Social Commitment

APEPDCL CMD Prudhvi Tej said that they are committed to becoming a central hub for energy efficiency, aligning with the vision of the AP Energy Department and receiving support from entities such as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and EESL of the Union Government.

The organisation actively promotes energy efficiency on a large scale, prioritising public welfare and consumer needs as directed by the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Minister for Energy Peddyreddi Ramachandr Reddy and Special Secretary, Energy K Vijayanand, he said.

EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor appreciated the significant achievements of APEPDCL in implementing energy efficiency measures and assured that EESL would fully support APEPDCL to become a front-runner in the field of energy efficiency.
