VPA launches 'Port Darshan' programme for school kids

For the first time in the history, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has hit upon a novel initiative to organise industrial visit to its facilities to school students under the programme titled “Port Darshan”.
The initiative is first of its kind among the major organizations in the city. The programme aims to educate school children on the activities of port, its role in the Indian economy, its contribution to the society at large and its support under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to various communities in and around
the port.
The initiative which was the brainchild of Chairman of VPA Dr. M. Angamuthu was kicked off on Friday with the first batch of students from Queens Mary Government Girls High School, I Town area, Visakhapatnam. Under the programme the students are provided with an overall briefing on operations of the port at Vizag International Cruise Terminal followed by a bus ride in port operational areas.
The experimental programme was a grand success. It was highly appreciated by the school management and students. The opportunity will be offered to other schools in phases under the Port Darshan project, a port official said.
