VPA handles record 90.29 MMT

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), one of the top premier ports in India, has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever annual cargo throughput of 90.29 Million Metric Tonnes (90,298,591 MT) as on 28.03.2026 i.e. in just 362 days during the Financial Year 2025–26, marking a significant achievement in its illustrious 92-year history.
VPA, the largest port on the East Coast, was thrown open to ocean traffic wayback in 1933. The specialises in handling container traffic, iron ore, coal and crude oil. It is known for its strategic location midway between Kolkata and Chennai. Modernisation efforts has led its growth momentum despite competition in the neighbourhood.
Surpassing its previous best performance of 82.62 MMT (82,621,459 MT) recorded during FY 2024–25, VPA has set a new benchmark in operational excellence and growth.
Notably, this remarkable feat was accomplished in just 362 days, achieving the target on 28th March 2026, well ahead of schedule. This accomplishment reflects VPA’s efficient operations, strategic planning, and strong coordination among all stakeholders.
