Vizag to Become India’s Next AI Powerhouse: Google Sets Up Major AI and Connectivity Hub
Google partners with AdaniConneX and Airtel to build a major AI and connectivity hub in Vizag, enhancing India’s global digital presence.
Google’s AI hub project in Visakhapatnam will connect India’s eastern coast to global subsea networks, boosting AI innovation and connectivity.

Google has made a plan to turn Visakhapatnam into a worldwide AI and digital connectivity center and collaborate with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel to create an advanced infrastructure project that will support the coming era of digital interaction not only for India but also for other countries.
🌊 Global AI Infrastructure Lands in Vizag
As part of the investment, Google will build a new international subsea gateway on India’s eastern coast — bringing multiple undersea cables to land in Visakhapatnam. These will connect directly to Google’s two million miles of global terrestrial and subsea cable networks, significantly boosting India’s data capacity and connectivity resilience.
The Vizag AI hub will operate on the same advanced infrastructure that powers flagship Google products like Search, YouTube, and Workspace. It will deliver high-performance, low-latency AI services, enabling businesses, researchers, and developers to build and scale innovative solutions.
🧠 India’s New AI Frontier
When the plant becomes operational, it will become a part of Google’s network of AI data centers that is spread across twelve nations. It will draw knowledge and skills from Google’s Research and Development offices located in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune and will merge hardware and software innovations for the faster adoption of AI by the Indian market.
The upcoming underwater gateways will be an extension of the current connections made in the cities of Mumbai and Chennai, thus providing a much-needed alternative route and reinforcing the digital infrastructure of India.
💬 Government and Industry React
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the initiative as a milestone for India’s digital future:
“This investment aligns with the India AI Mission and will make technology an integral part of every walk of life. We look forward to re-skilling and upskilling professionals to harness the immense potential of AI.”
Meanwhile, Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, called the collaboration a “defining moment” for India’s digital landscape.
“By combining world-class AI infrastructure with India’s talent and global connectivity, Visakhapatnam will emerge as a key hub on the world’s AI map,” Vittal said.
🌱 A Sustainable and Smart Growth Vision
Google made a strong statement about its dedication to sustainability again by stating that its AI hubs and data centers are already among the most energy-efficient in the world. The company will work with local partners in Andhra Pradesh on the development of the clean energy generation, storage systems, and new transmission lines that are required for this project.
Airtel, on the other hand, will build an extensive intra-city and inter-city fiber network that will provide the region with faster and more reliable connectivity.
The ambitious project will put Visakhapatnam on the map as a major digital and AI innovation center- thus, solidifying India’s role as a top player in the global AI market.
