Vizag heading to turn a tech hub, after TCS, Cognizant to establish campus?

Andhra Pradesh's largest city Visakhapatnam seems to be heading towards becoming a tech hub as it is attracting several IT giants after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was allotted 21.16 acres at Rushikonda close to the sea for a paltry 99 paisa. Cognizant investment of little over Rs.1500 crore was approved by the State Investment Promotion Board on Thursday. Sources told Bizz Buzz that the IT major Cognizant has been offered 22 acres near the Panorama Hills and VMRDA Haritha Housing Project on the lines of slew of incentives and land allotment offered to TCS as an anchor investor.
Another IT major Infosys, which is operating its office at a rented building at Rushikonda is also in talks with the government for expanding and allotting suitable sites to develop its permanent campus. The Cognizant project will be expanded in three phases with a
commitment to create employment for 8,000 techies. TCS has committed to invest Rs.1370 crore with the creation of 12,000 jobs. Initially, TCS has signed an agreement to take the premises of Dallas Technology Centre on lease. After the agreement was signed, the government came forward to offer its space at the Millennium Tower, a landmark developed by APIIC on the Rushikonda Hills.
After meeting Cognizant Technology Solutions CEO S. Ravi Kumar at the annual meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos in January, 2025, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh declared "good news for the State (AP) from Cognizant Technologies is on the way." Though Visakhapatnam is home to IT Special Economic Zones at Rushikonda and Gambheeram, Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) and Andhra Pradesh Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), 80% of the estimated revenue of Rs.20,000 crore is sourced from BPM units.
Google has already signed a MoU with the AP Government to set up an AI-based data centre in Visakhapatnam. It is also in talks for getting suitable land. Adani Data Park project envisaged with Rs.20,000 crore recently received environmental clearance by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA). The project will be grounded at Kapuluppada.
