Visakhapatnam: In a major push to turn Visakhapatnam into a major IT & GCC hub, the Andhra Pradesh Government has rolled out the red carpet to French-based IT major Capgemini to set up an IT development centre and a Global Capability Center (GCC) here, as part of its efforts to transform the city into a premier technological and knowledge hub. AP’s IT, Electronics and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, who played a key role in bringing Google and Reliance Industries to invest in data centres and Cognizant and Tata Consultancy Services in IT campuses here, flew down to the city on a short visit to meet the top brass of Capgemini to discuss investments that could create employment for around 20,000 people.
Responding to the invitation, Capgemini Global CEO Aiman Ezzat said the multinational would examine the proposals made by the AP Government. Founded in Paris in 1967, Capgemini employs around 340,000 people globally, with nearly 200,000 employees based in India. The company provides services across key verticals including strategy and transformation, cloud, data and AI, digital engineering, enterprise platforms, managed services and cybersecurity. Capgemini currently records an annual revenue of about $23.9 billion.
The visit followed several rounds of talks to identify a suitable location for the proposed development centre. Sources in the IT Department said Capgemini may begin initial operations from IT Hills with a 200-seater facility. The company had also clinched a $3.3 billion acquisition of WNS in late 2025. WNS already operates a large facility in the city and is known for agentic AI-powered intelligent operations.
