The Indian tourism industry was one of the largest service industries in the country in terms of its contribution to GDP and foreign exchange earnings, in addition to being a source of employment.

The Indian domestic travel market offers a wide range of experiences tailored to various segments of the population. Government initiatives, such as the ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive’ and the ‘India Says I Do’ campaign, aim to boost business in the religious tourism and destination wedding tourism segments, respectively. Additionally, the popularity of staycations and workcations has surged, driven by changing preferences and flexible work options.

Part of the over 677 million domestic tourists in the country also jumped on the staycation and workcation trend. On average, a budget-friendly traveler spent between four to five thousand Indian rupees per night on a hotel, while premium accommodation started at nine thousand Indian rupees per night.

The growth of Domestic Tourism is reflected at TTF Mumbai being the financial capital, is a key market for India’s domestic and international travel. Its high travel demand and connectivity make it a prime market for tourism businesses looking to expand their reach.

The inauguration of TTF Mumbai took place in the august presence of Chief Guests Ms. Diya Kumari, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Mr. Rajesh Yadav (IAS), Principal Secretary of Tourism, Govt. of Rajasthan; Mr. Mohamad Farouk, Regional Director, India tourism Mumbai, Minister of Tourism, Govt. of India was also present, along with travel industry leaders, association heads, and members of the media, who were also present in large numbers.

TTF Mumbai 2025 is being held with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, which will have a significant presence at the show. As the Host State, Maharashtra Tourism has also extended its full endorsement, further strengthening its prominence and impact.

WTTC is forecasting that the sector could grow its annual GDP contribution to INR 43.25TN by 2034, representing 7.6% of the Indian economy, and could potentially employ almost 63MN people across the country.

International visitor spending is expected to grow more than 17%, to reach INR 2.85TN, while domestic visitor spending is projected to continue growing this year, with a 9.6% increase to reach more than INR 16TN.
