The Vijayawada Police Commissionerate is embracing a tech-first approach to maintain law and order, integrating artificial intelligence, facial recognition systems, and smart surveillance tools across the city.

To curb crime and improve responsiveness, over 1,640 AI-powered surveillance cameras have been installed, many equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and facial recognition technology. These tools are being monitored in real-time through a centralized Command and Control Center, enabling faster decision-making and deployment of police units.

The integration of Drone-based surveillance, body-worn cameras, and smart mobile apps for police personnel has further empowered the force to act swiftly, especially in sensitive zones, major intersections, and crime-prone areas.

Officials reported that the implementation of these technologies has already shown significant results—reduced crime rates, quicker response to emergencies, and improved detection of suspects. Special focus is being given to women’s safety, traffic regulation, and crowd management during public events.

This AI-backed system also allows seamless coordination with other emergency services, enabling a faster and more efficient response framework. Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata emphasized that such technological advancements reflect the department's commitment to a "safe and smart city."

As Vijayawada evolves into a tech-enabled urban center, its police force is setting an example for other cities on how technology can modernize and humanize public safety operations.
