TDP wins both seats in ZPTC bypolls in Kadapa district

In a big setback to YSRCP, ruling TDP has registered spectacular win from both Pulivendula and Vontimetta (Ontimetta) ZPTC bypolls.

The elections assumed importance as they were held in Kadapa district, a stronghold of late YS Rajasekhar Reddy's family in Kadapa district. YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy is an MLA from Pullivendula constituency.

While TDP's Latha Reddy defeated YSRCP's Hemanth Reddy by a margin of 6,035 votes, in Vontimitta also the winning trend continues. TDP's Muddu Krishna Reddy beat YSRCP's Subba Reddy by 6,267 votes.

The bypolls witnessed several skirmishes and clashes. YSRCP leadership had sought countermanding of the elections alleging rigging by the ruling party and demanded repolling under the supervision of Central paramilitary forces.

Meanwhile, in a post on his X handle, Minister for IT and Education Nara Lokesh said "The people of #Pulivendula and #Ontimitta have chosen progress over backwardness! For the first time in 30 years, Pulivendula has taken part in a truly democratic election process and the people have had the chance to cast their vote freely. Congratulations to Latha Reddy and Krishna Reddy on their well-earned victory. My heartfelt thanks to the people for turning out in large numbers to support our candidates."
