RINL archives new milestone at SMS-2 with highest heats on a single day

In a remarkable display of teamwork, dedication, and excellence, the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) Collective–Visakhapatnam Steel Plant achieved a new milestone at Steel Melting Shop-2(SMS-2).

On Tuesday, the RINL team produced 72 heats in a single day at SMS-2, surpassing the previous best of 68 heats set on January 30, 2021. RINL is the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which has an annual production capacity of 7.3 million tonnes.

This extraordinary achievement marks the highest-ever daily heats from SMS-2, since the inception. It stands as a testament to the skill, efficiency, and unwavering commitment of RINL’s workforce towards delivering quality steel and pushing the boundaries of operational excellence.

Each heat is equivalent to 150 tonnes of steel. The record on August 12 surpassed the previous best of 68 heats set in Jan'21. It is considered as a remarkable display of dedication, teamwork, and operational excellence.

The milestone has come at a time when RINL is operating all the three blast furnaces after a ;long time close on the heels of revival package unveiled by the Government of India. Early this year, the Union Cabinet approved a Rs.11,440 crore revival package to put RINL back on the track. The package envisages infusing a fresh equity of Rs.10,300 crore and conversion of working capital loan into preference share capital worth Rs.1140 crore. The aim is to support RINL operations and maintain it as a going concern.

Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu congratulated RINL Collective for achieving a phenomenal milestone, a record 72 heats produced in SMS2.

Taking to X, he said: "In July, RINL – Vizag Steel has produced an impressive 5 lakh tons of hot metal, averaging 105 heats per day With such consistent performance, efforts from the employees and necessary support from govt the plant is well on track to touch the 6 lakh tons mark in August, aiming average 120 Heats/Day.'

He stated "this achievement is not just a number, It’s a testament to the hard work and spirit of every employee contributing to the growth of India’s steel sector.
