Revised estimates for sewage project in Vizag for Rs.452 crore sanctioned

Sewage collection and conveyance system in the city is expected to get a big boost with the State Government sanctioning revised administrative sanction of Rs.452.46 crore to the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL).
Under the smart city project, the authorities are implementing the integrated Sewerage Collection and Conveyance System, along with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Pendurthi area.
The project includes Recycled Sewage Gravity Flow (RSGF), tertiary treatment and comprehensive O&M services for a period of 15 years.
According to S. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department, the initiative is a key step towards strengthening urban sanitation infrastructure and ensuring sustainable reuse of treated wastewater in the growing city of Visakhapatnam.
The project jointly taken up by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and GVSCCL, envisioned to establish an underground drainage network for approximately 12,000 house service connections in Pendurthi, is designed to collect, treat, and safely dispose of sewage, with a strong focus on water recycling.
The contract was initially awarded to Tata Projects Ltd in 2018, with a projected completion time of two years and five months. The original completion date was April 23, 2021. However, due to multiple unforeseen circumstances and extensions of time (EoT), the project timeline has been extended, with the current EoT granted up to July 31, 2024. The project is presently nearing completion, official sources said.
