Representatives from the trade and commerce in Visakhapatnam on Sunday pleaded for nominating some of them in the task force on industrial accidents.

During an informal meeting with 20 Point Programme Implementation Chairman Lanka Dinakar here, the members of AP Chambers comprising G. Sambasiva Rao garu, O. Naresh Kumar, K.V.S.A. Verma, vice chairperson Alla Leela Rani, State MSME Committee chairman & president, VASSIWA S. Panduranga Prasad, secretary of VASSIWA P.V. Ram Prasad, EC member of VASSIWA P. Rambhadra Raju and senior member D.S. Verma apprised Dinakar of several key concerns affecting the industrial and pharmaceutical sectors.

They explained to him the need for industry representation in the Task Force for Inspection of industrial accidents, efficient operation of the Atchutapuram (Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) as the APIIC is a key stakeholder.

They proposed to adopt an industry-led operational model for the ETP to ensure better efficiency and accountability, formation of a consortium of academia and industry and skill development centres, revamp of the property taxation policy—shifting the basis from capital value to industrial use, type of land and turnover, settlement scheme for legacy VAT issues during the transition to GST and issues related to high power charges for industries.
