Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan strongly responded to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s provocative comments following India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Speaking to reporters, Kalyan said Pakistan should remember its defeats in past wars and that if pushed, every Indian is ready to defend the nation—even with their blood. “We should send them visuals of how their 70,000 soldiers surrendered in previous wars. If they try to cross the line again, we’ll show them what India is made of,” he said.

Bhutto had warned that if India stopped Pakistan’s water, “blood will flow instead.” He made the statement during a rally in Sindh, asserting that the Indus River belongs to Pakistan and tying its legacy to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization in Mohenjo-Daro. Bhutto claimed that India had no right to divert the river’s waters and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of warmongering.

The Indian government, in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives—mostly tourists—has downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan.

Kalyan also criticized the Congress party for appearing to support Pakistan in the wake of the attack. At a memorial meeting for Madhusudan Rao, one of the victims, Kalyan said that any political leader defending Pakistan should consider leaving India. “Supporting a country that is behind such attacks, while living in India, is shameful. Kashmir is ours, and terrorism should never be used for political gains,” he said.

Calling for national unity, Kalyan emphasized that terrorism must be fought with a firm hand and that such tragedies should not be politicized.
