Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairman Dr. M. Angamuthu on Friday said their emphasis on better citizen engagement and sharing their prosperity with the people of the neighbourhood.
He was speaking at the 79th Independence Day celebrations by the VPA which marked patriotic fervour at the Port Golden Jubilee Stadium. After unfurling the National Flag, he extended heartfelt Independence Day greetings to all officers, employees, stevedores, stakeholders, and members of the media. He reaffirmed VPA’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with the citizens of Visakhapatnam by developing essential infrastructure that benefits both the port and the local community.
He also commended the employees for bringing laurels to the Port by securing First Place in the Swachhata Pakhwada Awards among all Major Ports.
Dr. Angamuthu assured the people of Visakhapatnam that the Port, in close coordination with the State Government and local authorities, is working diligently to combat pollution and improve living conditions in the city.
Highlighting the port’s performance, he noted that VPA achieved its highest-ever cargo handling in the last financial year and expressed confidence that the port will continue the same momentum in the current year. He also emphasised VPA’s active collaboration with the State Government to channelise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds into various developmental and community welfare initiatives.
He asked the officers, Employees and trade fraternity to work relentlessly with dedication, devotion in bringing laurels to VPA and making VPA the best
port in the country.
The celebrations featured a vibrant cultural programme with patriotic themes. The CISF presented a series of impressive security drills, including VIP security demonstrations, mock drills, and performances by trained security sniffing dogs. A patriotic display on ‘Operation Sindhoor’ emerged as one of the highlights of the day.
Concluding the event, Dr. Angamuthu presented citations and awards to employees for their exemplary performance and to stakeholders for their significant contribution to VPA’s growth in handling large cargo volumes.
