Amaravati: NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam met and discussed the Purvodaya scheme and Visakhapatnam Growth Hub with Chief Secretary K Vijayanand here on Thursday and called for a formal report to develop a mega container port in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, Subrahmanyam said that Andhra Pradesh is ahead of the fastest growing States on the Eastern Coast of India and there are opportunities for further development in the coastal area through the Purvodaya scheme.

Especially, although there are many ports in Andhra Pradesh, there is a need to set up a container megaport and the government needs to make appropriate efforts as a first step. Similarly, he suggested to CS Vijayanand to prepare a suitable report so that he can give a special presentation on the innovative schemes being taken up for the comprehensive development of Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming Chief Secretaries' meeting.

Later he discussed the development benefits of the establishment of Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati growth corridors.

Later, the Chief Secretary said that a special officer will be appointed in-charge to expedite the work of the Visakhapatnam Growth Hub. He explained that the government is making great efforts to take various projects forward quickly in the state and to set up many new projects and industries.

Efforts are being made to ensure that adequate funds are sanctioned from the Centre for various projects and schemes in a timely manner. CS Vijayanand urged NITI Aayog CEO Subrahmanyam to recommend that NITI Aayog allocate adequate funds from the Centre.

Purvodaya is an innovative scheme launched by the Central Government in the five States of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar on the Eastern Coast of the country. It aims to make Eastern India a key driver of national progress by harnessing cultural heritage and natural resources, creating new infrastructure, generating employment and promoting sustainable economic growth.

NITI Aayog Additional CEO Parthasarathy Reddy, Prinicipal Secretary Finance and Planning Piyush Kumar, Secretary Education K Shashidhar, Secretary, Finance V Vinay Chand, Joint Secretary, Planning Ananth Shankar and MD Skill Development G. Ganesh Kumar participated.
