Amaravati: NDA leaders in Andhra Pradesh have gone go gaga over inking of $15 billion data centre hub project by Google, Adani Group and Airtel in Visakhapatnam and exuded confidence that like Microsoft entry into Hyderabad led to birth of Cyberabad, Andhra Pradesh will also see transformative changes in the near future.
IT, Electronics and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, who made a strong pitch to Google management to set up a mega data centre project here during his visit to United States last year, said the MoU will repeat Hyderabad-type development in AP. It will have a multiplier effect, he remarked.
In a post on X, he said "we’ve inked a landmark pact with @Google to build a 1 GW hyperscale data centre in Vizag. Google will invest up to $15 billion over 5 years, fueling Andhra Pradesh’s rise as India’s data capital."
He said: "Destiny has come calling again. Years after our leader Chandrababu Naidu anchored Hyderabad’s tech leap with Microsoft, I feel today that fate has given our young State another opportunity. And once again, we are ready."
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who convinced Bill Gates in the 1990s to set up Microsoft's first development centre out of Seattle in Hyderabad, said Google AI data centre in Visakha to bring AI revolution in India.
Naidu said with the establishment of Google AI data centre in Visakhapatnam, India will witness rapid growth in education, health, agriculture and other sectors. "It is a major breakthrough in promoting Visakhapatnam as major IT hub," he remarked.
"Vikasit Bharat is showing its results in Visakhapatnam," Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan said.
On his return to Amaravati, NDA leaders sporting placards of "Thank You CM Sir-Google comes to AP" welcomed the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister said that party leaders should bring awareness among people over setting up of Google AI data centre in Visakhapatnam. He said the entry of Microsoft to Hyderabad changed the IT scenario of Hyderabad in the past. Now the Google AI data centre will bring AI revolution in Visakhapatnam.
He said this achievement was possible only with reestablishing the brand image of Andhra Pradesh in the past 16 months.
Earlier, Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), stated that it entered into a strategic partnership with Google to set up India’s first AI hub in Visakhapatnam. "This landmark initiative will accelerate the adoption of AI across India, strengthen the country’s digital backbone and bring Google’s full AI-stack and consumer services closer to Indian businesses," the company said.
