The State Government has formed a Group of Ministers to study the proposal to enhance the draft by undertaking dredging and extend the deadline for the Ramayapatnam Port.

The port is being developed by AP Maritime Board. The GoM consisting of Finance, Infrastructure & Investment and Tourism Ministers will recommend the future course of action. After the change in government, the contractor has been removed and a new firm has been appointed to take up the work. The construction work is being taken up under a special purpose vehicle Ramayapatnam Port Development Corporation Ltd (RPDCL).

The first phase of the project, which was originally estimated at Rs.3,736 crore, has already been revised to Rs.4,929 crore. The deadline set for the first phase of work expires in June. APMB has sought approval for extension of the deadline to April 27, 2026 due to various reasons.

APMB contends that increasing in draft to 18.metres by undertaking dredging, infrastructural works like road and rail connectivity all estimated at Rs.1245 crore will ensure commercial viability.
