Mild Earthquake of Magnitude 3.7 Hits Alluri District, Tremors Felt in Visakhapatnam

Early in the morning of Tuesday, a sneak of tremors was felt across several parts, waking up residents momentarily. The IMD reported a 3.7-magnitude earthquake near G. Madugula in the ASR district at 4:19 AM, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
“On November 4, 2025, at 4:19:41 AM, an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 was recorded at a depth of 10 km in ASR district. This is a minor earthquake of low intensity,”
said S. Stella, Director of IMD Amaravati, speaking to The Hindu.
🌍 Minor Tremors, No Major Damage Reported
- The earthquake’s epicentre was identified near G. Madugula, and mild tremors were felt in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. Officials confirmed that there were no reports of damage or casualties.
 - Dr. Stella explained that cracks in roads or buildings typically begin to appear only in quakes measuring 5.0 or higher, depending on local conditions.
 - “Road damage can occur in quakes of magnitude 5.3 and above, but it depends on factors like distance from the epicentre and soil composition,” she added.
 - Experts from Andhra University’s Department of Earth Sciences also noted that the intensity of tremors and damage potential rely heavily on the earthquake’s depth, soil type, and building quality.

🏠 Residents Recall Early Morning Shocks
Several Vizag residents reported feeling light jolts lasting a few seconds.
- “I felt a few jerks while lying in bed and woke up immediately, but it didn’t last long,” said R. Jagadeesh, a resident of PM Palem.
 - Mild tremors were felt in the areas of Madhurawada, Maharanipeta, Rushikonda, Kailasapuram, Gajuwaka, Simhachalam, and Beach Road.
 - Interestingly, people also claimed they heard thunder and lightning at almost exactly the same time, causing some momentary panic.
 - "For some moment, I thought an explosion might have gone off in one of the industrial units close to the city," said Srinivas, resident of Beach Road.

⚠️ IMD Advisory
According to the IMD officers, the earthquake was of minor intensity and caused no damage: so residents were urged not to panic. But a warning has been now issued for the possible onset of aftershocks. So keen observation on these occurrences and following the safety instructions is strongly advised, although none of such reports has yet come to notice.
