Amaravati: In a big push to promotion of Brand AP, Google will launch operations of its mega center here sometime in October, 2028.

Though in-principle agreement was signed in December, 2024 for partnership with Andhra Pradesh Government mainly due to initiative of IT, Electronics and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, a formal MoU for the $10 billion project spread over three locations in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle districts is likely to be inked on October 14, a few days before the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam, being revived after returning to power by TDP- led NDA Government in the State.

During his US visit exactly a year ago, Lokesh had visited Google campus in San Francisco and made a strong plea to establish mega data center in Visakhapatnam after interacting with CEO Thomas Kurian and other top executives of the multinational.

Lokesh said the data center will position Visakhapatnam as a "Data Valley" and aims to create job opportunities for 5 lakh youth. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said small townships must be developed to provide housing and infrastructure for IT employees, while also creating work-from-home opportunities for another 5 lakh individuals.

Sites are being allotted to Google at Tarluvada and Adavivaram in Visakhapatnam and Rambilli in neighbouring Anakapalle district. The data center will have submarine cables and advanced communication infrastructure in addition to renewable energy plant to meet its power requirement.

The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by the Chief Minister on Wednesday approved a foreign investment of Rs87,520 crore by Raiden Infotech India Limited, a subsidiary of Google, to establish India’s largest data center in Visakhapatnam.

At the SIPB meeting held here, total investments worth Rs1,14,824 crore were approved, with a potential to create employment for 67,218 people. So far, 11 SIPB meetings have cleared investments totaling Rs7.07 lakh crore, with a potential to generate 6.2 lakh jobs.

Chief Minister Naidu and other Ministers congratulated Nara Lokesh for his efforts in bringing the data center project to Visakhapatnam.

The Chief Minister noted that the project will lay the foundation for a strong technology ecosystem and would accelerate technological development in the region.

Calling for developing regional economic corridors, he emphasised the need to establish a special economic corridor to drive industrial growth in the Rayalaseema region.
