Amaravati: The aggressive push by the AP government to position the State as a leader in the clean energy revolution is yielding encouraging results, with several big ticket projects being announced.
January 17, 2026, marked a significant milestone, with CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM K. Pawan Kalyan kickstarting the brownfield expansion of Greenko’s USD 10-billion green ammonia export project at Kakinada.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the work on the NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and NREDCAP’s joint venture’s National Green Hydrogen Hub project at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam last year at a cost of USD 22 billion.
Notably, Raiden Infotech India, a subsidiary of Google, in partnership with AdaniConnex and Bharti Airtel, has signed an MoU to establish an AI Data Center Hub in Visakhapatnam with an investment of USD 15 billion.
This was followed by the announcement of a 1-GW AI-supported data centre by Digital Connexion, also in Visakhapatnam, at a cost of USD 11 billion. Under its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, AP aims to produce 72 GW of renewable energy by 2029 and 160 GW by 2047. At the recent CII Partnership Summit, of the MoUs worth Rs. 13.25 lakh crore, the clean energy sector alone accounted for proposals involving investments of Rs. 5 lakh crore. After his visit to Kakinada, the CM said in a post on X: “The world is actively seeking cleaner and more sustainable alternatives for the future. Green ammonia is one such transformative option, with applications ranging from clean fuels to sustainable fertilisers.” He added, “Andhra Pradesh is proud to take a historic step in this direction. Kakinada will now host the world’s largest green ammonia project, contributing meaningfully to India’s clean energy transition and to global decarbonisation efforts.” Emphasising the State’s thrust on reducing its carbon footprint, the CM said: “Today’s equipment erection ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for Andhra Pradesh as a leader in the clean energy transition. I congratulate the people of AP on this momentous occasion.” Hailing the Kakinada project, Lok Satta founder and former IAS officer Jaya Prakash Narayan said on X: “Heartiest congratulations to Greenko on establishing the world’s largest Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex at Kakinada, AP. This 1.5 MTPA GNH3 plant with 1,950 MW electrolyser capacity will be a major milestone in India’s energy transition and in the production of high-value chemicals.”
