Deadline to complete Machilipatnam Port extended, orders issued

Andhra Pradesh Government has extended the deadline for the EPC contract to develop Machilipatnam Port to December 28, 2026.
The order to this effect was issued by MT Krishna Babu. Special Chief Secretary. Infrastructure and Investment Department vide GO Ms. No. 98 dated December 17, 2025 on a representation by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL).
Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board awarded the EPC contract to MEIL as part of port-led development for an amount of Rs.5,155.73 crore.
The EPC contractor had earlier sought extension of deadline from 30 months of project commencement date of April 24, 2023 citing several reasons.
The causes cited for the delay included undue time in finalisation of breakwater design and quantity variations, dredge disposal location, alternate scheme in place of diaphragm wall, change in design parameters of berthing structures and additional time required for variation works.
After due verification by PMC (project management consultant) RITES Ltd, the extension of time (EoT) plea was placed before the technical evaluation and EPC committee held on October 9. After detailed examination of the committee, the EoT for various components of the project was allowed.
