The Bay of Bengal cyclone Montha is growing stronger and thus Andhra Pradesh and other coastal areas are getting ready for heavy rain and strong winds. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for 23 districts, advising the local officials to take necessary precautions.

PM Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu to check the cyclone readiness and he promised full support from the central government. The cyclone originated from a deep depression and is projected to cross the land between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam by Tuesday evening or night.

🌀 Cyclone Montha Latest IMD Update

Per the early Monday IMD statement, the storm was positioned around 600 km to the east-southeast of Chennai, 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada, and 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam and moving to the west-northwest at 16 kmph.

Red alerts have been declared for the districts of SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and Kakinada. The other coastal areas are under orange alert cautioning about heavy to very heavy rainfall and powerful winds.

➡️ Rayalaseema on High Alert

Moderate rains and cloudy skies affected the districts of Chittoor, Annamayya, and Sri Sathya Sai.

Chittoor: 41 mm precipitation (a drop from 573 mm on Sunday)

Rajampeta (Annamayya): 40 mm precipitation

Sri Sathya Sai district: 8.4 mm precipitation

Authorities are foreseeing more complications because Montha’s outer bands have already reached the interiors and the impact of rain will gradually worsen road conditions and hamper agriculture.

➡️ Kerala Witnesses Heavy Rainfall

The effects of Cyclone Montha led to heavy rain in Kerala, with the worst hit being northern and central areas.

on October 28, the IMD also placed a yellow alert in 7 districts and the rain is expected to continue for the next two days.

➡️ Visakhapatnam Experiences Average Rainfall of 52.2 mm

As of 5 p.m. Monday, Pedagantyada mandal had the highest rainfall of 72.2 mm in the whole district.

Gajuwaka: 62.8 mm precipitation

10 mandals each had more than 40 mm of rainfall

According to the records given by the I&PR Department, the average rainfall in the district was 52.2 mm.

⚠️ Alert is Given by Authorities

TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao has asked the people the stay careful especially in the coastal and low-lying regions and to abide by the evacuation orders in case they are issued.

He is observing the scenario from Gajuwaka and is in touch with officials of the Revenue, Police, Panchayat Raj, and Electricity departments for 24x7 emergency response and power restoration.
