Visakhapatnam: Google will break ground on its $15 billion AI hyperscale data centre hub near Visakhapatnam on April 28, marking its largest investment outside the United States. The project is expected to transform the coastal city into a major global technology destination.

Top executives from Google, along with partners AdaniConnex and Bharti Airtel, will attend the ceremony. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh are also scheduled to be present.

The one-gigawatt-plus capacity project will be developed across multiple locations. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has allocated land parcels in Adavivaram, Mudasarlova, Tarluvada near Anandapuram, and Rambilli in Anakapalle district. The project will be executed under Raiden Infotech India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Google, and is targeted for completion by July 2028, as per the MoU signed in October 2025.

Sources said separate special purpose vehicles (SPVs) are being created for each location, with full ownership by Adani Infra. The facilities will feature advanced infrastructure, including high-capacity submarine cables, dedicated landing stations, and high-speed fibre connectivity.

Meanwhile, Meta Platforms is exploring a large undersea cable network with Visakhapatnam and Mumbai identified as landing points, further strengthening the region’s digital backbone.

Calling the investment transformative, Lokesh said the project will help position Vizag as a “Data Valley” and generate employment for up to five lakh youth. The state government sees the project as a breakthrough that could reshape the region’s IT landscape, similar to the impact of Microsoft’s expansion in Hyderabad.

The investment will be rolled out over five years, focusing on gigawatt-scale data infrastructure and fibre networks to accelerate AI-led growth across sectors.
