Centre okays Rs 178 cr for women hostels

Visakhapatnam: The Central Government has sanctioned around Rs178 crore under SASCI 2024–25 for the construction of three Working women’s hostels in Visakhapatnam, aimed at providing safe and reliable accommodation for working women. Speaking on the occasion, MP M. Sribharat said on Monday “many women from the Uttarandhra region come to Visakhapatnam for employment. These hostels will provide them with a safe and comfortable place to stay, which has been a long-pending need.” As part of this initiative, the MP participated in the foundation-stone laying ceremony of a new working women’s hostel in Gajuwaka, to be built at a cost of Rs17.47 crore. Gajuwaka MLA and TDP State president Palla Srinivas Rao also joined the programme. Sribharat added that the hostel will greatly benefit women working in the many MSME units located in and around Gajuwaka, especially those coming from S Kota, Bheemili, and nearby areas. GVMC Mayor Peella Srinivasa Rao, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, public representatives, and officials were present.
