BEE to celebrate 25th Foundation Day on a grand scale in Delhi

Vijayawada: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power is all set to celebrate its 25th Foundation Day with a grand national event in New Delhi on March 1.
The landmark celebration will bring together key representatives and stakeholders from across the country, including State Designated Agencies (SDAs) from all States and Union Territories, with active participation from the Telugu States.
Established under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, BEE has been at the forefront of driving India’s energy-efficiency transformation. Over the past 25 years, the organisation has not only championed excellence in energy savings but has also played a pivotal role in advancing India’s broader vision of green economic growth and sustainable development.
Among the States, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a national leader by installing around 23.66 lakh LED streetlights in both rural and urban areas.
Telangana follows with 17.33 lakh installations, while Uttar Pradesh (12.90 lakh), Gujarat (12.80 lakh), Maharashtra (11.22 lakh), Rajasthan (10.73 lakh), and Kerala (4.5 lakh) have also made substantial contributions. Collectively, these efforts have helped reduce approximately 6.2 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Reviewing the arrangements for the celebrations, BEE Director-General KC. Panigrahy informed that Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar will attend as the chief guest and deliver the keynote address. Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik along with Secretary, Ministry of Power.Pankaj Agarwal will be the guest speakers.
Highlighting BEE’s achievements, the Director General who discussed the event with Deputy DG Asok Kumar, Secretary Milind Deore and senior executives of BEE stated that India’s energy-efficiency initiatives have delivered remarkable and measurable outcomes. During 2023–24 alone, energy-efficiency programmes resulted in savings of 53.60 Million Tonnes of Oil Equivalent (MTOE), monetary savings of approximately Rs2 lakh crore, and a reduction of 321 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
These achievements underline the success of the National Energy Efficiency Plan and reinforce the significance of celebrating BEE’s 25-year milestone.
